Not for birth control

This tool is designed for couples Trying to Conceive (TTC). Because sperm can live for 5 days and ovulation can unpredictably shift, using calendar estimates to avoid pregnancy is highly risky.

Why every other day? Having intercourse every 48 hours throughout the window ensures sperm is always waiting in the fallopian tubes, while reducing the burnout and stress of daily scheduling.

Sperm lives up to 5 days. Intercourse before ovulation allows sperm to travel and wait in the fallopian tubes.

The egg lives 12-24 hours. Once released, it degrades very quickly. If sperm isn't already waiting, the window closes.

When this estimate is most useful

  • • Your cycles are fairly regular.
  • • You know your usual cycle length.
  • • You want a practical TTC schedule for the days that matter most.

When you should widen the plan

If your cycle often shifts by several days, your fertile window can also move. In that case, use a wider timing plan and consider OPKs or cervical mucus tracking for better confirmation.

How to manage the fertile window

Trying to conceive can become exhausting. Understanding the biology helps you work smarter, not harder.

You do not need to hit every day

Studies show that intercourse every other day during the fertile window results in nearly identical pregnancy rates compared to daily intercourse, while significantly reducing relationship burnout.

Aim for before, not after

Sperm can take hours to swim to the fallopian tubes. If you wait to have sex until you feel ovulation cramps, the egg may already be dying. Pre-loading sperm on O-2 is statistically superior.

Cycle variation moves the window

If your cycle length naturally shifts from 28 to 31 days, your fertile window also shifts by 3 days. This is why strict calendar tracking should be paired with physical symptom tracking.

FAQ

Fertile Window Questions

Why is the fertile window 6 days long?
+

While an egg only lives for 12 to 24 hours after it is released, healthy sperm can survive inside the female reproductive tract for up to 5 days. The fertile window is the 5 days before ovulation plus the day of ovulation.

Do we need to have sex every single day of the fertile window?
+

No. Having intercourse every other day (e.g., O-4, O-2, and O-Day) is just as effective as having intercourse every day. It ensures a constant supply of viable sperm is waiting for the egg, and it can reduce TTC burnout.

Which days give the highest chance of conception?
+

Statistically, the two days immediately before ovulation (often called O-1 and O-2) offer the highest probability of conception—even higher than the exact day of ovulation itself.

Can I use this fertile window calculator to avoid pregnancy?
+

No. Using a mathematical calendar to avoid pregnancy is highly risky. Because sperm can live for 5 days, if your ovulation shifts even slightly earlier than expected, you could get pregnant from intercourse you thought was 'safe.'

What happens if my cycle length varies?
+

If your cycle varies by more than a few days, your fertile window will also shift. In this case, you should widen your intimacy plan to cover a broader range of days, or use OPK tests to confirm when the window is actually opening.

Is my tracking data private?
+

Yes, 100% private. We use local browser storage on your device so the calculator remembers your cycle length for your next visit without ever sending your health data to a server.
